Gerald L. "Jerry" Ellis

Savannah – Jerry "Gator" Ellis, 52, died, April 25, 2009 at Memorial University Medical Center. He was born in Savannah, son of Lewis Henry and Evelyn Stembridge Ellis. Jerry was an electrician with Memorial University Medical Center for twenty one years. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 508 and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Through the union, he was involved with CBS Sports working with the Verizon Heritage Golf Tournament and the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, boating and taking his dog, Happy to the marina. His father, Lewis H. Ellis preceded him in death.
Surviving are his daughters and a son-in-law, Shelley Ellis Barrett and Jon Barrett of Atlanta; Melanie Amber Ellis of Savannah; mother, Evelyn S. Ellis of Savannah; sister and her companion, Evey Neville and Jonathan Edwards of Richmond Hill; brothers, Steve Ellis and his wife, Carol of Bluffton; Ronnie Ellis of Savannah; a very special aunt, Chris Mobley of Savannah; grandchildren, Taylor, Nick and Zachery, niece and nephews, Angela, Ed, Stephen, Christopher, Brandon, Joshua, Jacob, Brett, Matthew, great nieces and nephew, Evan, Ashlyn and Kaitlyn.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in the Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors with Pastor Peter Hartmann officiating.
Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
Remembrances: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Gator may be made to the Curtis & Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute in honor of Dr. Barry Luskey for his hard work and dedication to Gator. I had not seen or heard from Jerry in many years. I will always remember him as such a fun guy, and he loved the beach. My sympathy and prayers go to his family.

Jerry, i just learned of your death this evening Apr 29th....im very sad i couldnt say goodbye...but i will say goodbye tomorrow at your grave......when we were kids....you were my best friend in the whole world.....you always made me laugh..and i never could wait for tomorrow so we could hang out...you got me in trouble more times than i can count..ok well maybe i got you into some trouble too!i consider knowing as one of the true treasures of my life....and ill never forget thinking....if there was one person i could turn myself into....it would be Jerry Ellis....the coolest guy ive ever known....we lost touch over the years....i wish i could have told you i love you like a brother.....my memories of you never waver..its like yesterday we were riding our bikes looking for something to get into.....ill keep you alive in my heart....and i hope to see you again one day.....Godspeed my dear childhood friend....i could never be more proud to say you were my best friend..heaven just got the coolest angel EVER!!!!God only takes the best....and YOU are the very best! I will never forget you....thank you Jerry!...your childhood co-hort...

Jerry and I grew up in same neighborhood, when through school together, and played hundreds of ball games together. I remember Jerry as a terrific athlete coupled with an easy going smile. I am saddened to learn of Jerry’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ellis family.
